Durant Walters
After beginning his construction career as a concrete laborer, Durant advanced his skills by obtaining an A.A.S. degree in Civil Engineering Technologies and worked for several years in construction inspection and material evaluation positions. He developed a passion for the field of civil construction and he went on to get a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park and later became a licensed Professional Engineer.
After graduation, Durant quickly rose to the position of Project Manager with a large, regional civil construction and earthwork firm, which was later acquired by one of the top 20 contractors in the world. He successfully led projects ranging in size from $10 to $143 million and individual project teams of up to 150 employees and subcontractors.
His extensive field and project experience led Durant to District Manager and Operations Manager positions with national heavy highway and marine construction firms in the Mid-Atlantic region. His regional expertise and market knowledge helped solidify their continued growth and success.
During his time in these roles, Durant also served on the Board of Directors for the Maryland Transportation Builders and Materials Association where he helped establish and implement the organization’s strategic goals and led its Safety Committee.
With over 30 years of experience in Heavy Civil Construction and Demolition, Durant brings technical insight as well as seasoned field experience to the Berg portfolio. As President, Durant is focused on solidifying BERG’s operational processes and financial strength, developing short and long-term goals, and ensuring the company’s adherence to its mission statement.
