Harford Mall Overhaul: Macy’s Demolition Set to Begin July 22

Wire fencing and excavators surrounded the Harford Mall’s former Macy’s storefront and parking lots on Tuesday as crews prepared for demolition beginning July 22 — a major step in the redevelopment of the former mall.

SJC Ventures, an Atlanta-based development firm, owns the Macy’s property. The demolition process will begin with interior work, followed by the exterior and major activities.

The demolition process will be completed by Howard County-based contracting firm Buch Construction. The contractors will disconnect the Macy’s from the mall building before demolishing the vacant store, a process expected to take “a number of weeks.” No explosives or wrecking ball equipment will be used, according to a news release…
